Following amendments to the Administration of Muslim Law Act (AMLA) in August 2017, the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Rules (MMDR) will also be amended with effect from 22 October 2018. Please refer to the following:
How will the amendments affect me?
There will be new requirements and procedures in the Syariah Court, including additional forms or new forms for filing of divorce applications and other matters. The last date for filing using the current forms is 16 October 2018 (Tue). Only new forms will be accepted for use from 22 October 2018 (Mon) onwards. Please download the new forms here.
To facilitate a smooth transition to the new filing requirements, the Syariah Court's filing registry will be closed from 17 October to 19 October 2018 (both dates inclusive).
What must I do if my filing deadline is between 17 and 19 October 2018?
If the filing deadline for any documents falls between 17 and 19 October 2018, it will be automatically extended to 26 October 2018 (Fri).
If the last counselling date falls between 17 and 19 April 2018, the last date for filing the originating summons for divorce is 16 October 2018 (Tue).
Could you help me understand the Court process better?
